Simon Gomez Gallego

Percussionist, Timpanist, Teacher

Simon Gomez Gallego. Percussionist, Timpanist, Educator.

Simón is a wonderful person and an amazing teacher.  We first met him in 2014 when my son was 10 years old. Simón was the teaching assistant at the Percussion Scholarship Program where my son was a student. He was infinitely patient with the kids and very good at motivating them.  Simón was also very good at identifying the different strengths and weaknesses of each kid and prepared the lesson accordingly.  My son is now 16 and Simón’s lessons are even more valuable. He gets him to work hard and gets the best out of him. Simón is also very knowledgeable in terms of music summer camps and has helped my son find great opportunities. Finally, Simón came to our rescue when the PSP rehearsal space closed due to the pandemic. My son was able to borrow from him mallets, cymbals, timpani and other orchestral percussion instruments. I highly recommend him.

Simón is a great teacher. He is laid back, but demanding: he doesn’t let a single detail slide. When I was preparing orchestral excerpts, he helped me make each excerpt perfect not just with technical knowledge from playing these excerpts inside and out, but also by helping me find a little of that same percussionist perfectionist energy. I feel like he genuinely cares about my own performance.

Simón Gómez is a true professional when it comes to teaching percussion. He has been teaching my son for the past year, mainly on timpani. From the start, he gives Tyler weekly timpani exercises to practice that truly challenge him, gives him timpani repertoire to learn (all the Beethoven Symphonies, for example), and works with Tyler on his Symphony Orchestra pieces. Since starting with Simon, Tyler has become a much improved timpanist! They also work on other percussion instruments, as well. In addition, Simon is always on time (or early), has a wonderful personality, and is truly sincere and dedicated in Tyler’s progress. We highly recommend Simon Gomez as a timpani/percussion teacher.

Simón is an amazing teacher. He helped me gain confidence as a musician and find my musical voice. Simon really takes pride in what he does and I'm extremely grateful to have had him as a teacher. He helped bring out the best in me, and without him I wouldn't be the musician I am today.

Simón has been my teacher since I was in eight grade. For the last 6 years he has gone out of his way to help me many times: preparing me for lessons, encouraging me to apply for competitions and scholarships, and even letting me borrow his personal instruments. Simón is not only a great educator and musician, but also an amazing person and friend. He's extremely kind but is also a “tough cookie” when he needs to be and really gets into all the important details when teaching. Simón has motivated and inspired me to continue pursuing music, and I would not be the musician I am today if it were not for him.
